Biology

Objectives

  1. Help students to acquire knowledge of biological principles and concepts.
  2. Help students to develop an interest in study of biological science, an appreciation of the wonders of the living world and a respect for all living things.
  3. Help students to develop an inquiring mind, the skills and attitudes for scientific investigation, and the ability to apply biological knowledge to solve problems, and to communicate effectively with others using scientific language.
  4. Help students to develop a good learning habit and learn from assessments.
  5. Fine-tune the existing NSS curriculum in biology.
  6. Fostering students’ problem-solving ability by integrating subject content and daily life experiences.

Chemistry

Objectives

Students should:

  1. acquire an appropriate body of knowledge and understanding in Chemistry.
  2. be acquainted with the language of Chemistry and be equipped with the skills in communicating ideas in Chemistry related contents.
  3. acquire an ability to think rationally and critically, and to apply the knowledge of Chemistry, in making judgment and solving problems.
  4. become aware of the social, economic, environmental and technological implication of chemistry and show concern for the local environment and society.

Physics

Objectives

Students should:

  1. develop an appreciation of the developments in physics and an awareness of the relationship of physics to everyday life, and of the role of the applications of physics in the fields of engineering and technology;
  2. establish a conceptual framework for physics and provide an understanding of its methodology;
  3. encourage a balance between an experimental and a theoretical approach to physics;
  4. develop skills relevant to the application of physics, such as experimental design, experimental technique, problem solving, mathematical analysis, critical appraisal and communication; and
  5. acquire a sense of moral and social values and readiness to becoming responsible citizens in a changing world.

Integrated Science

Objectives

Students should:

  1. To teach basic scientific knowledge and concepts so that students can survive in this technological world.
  2. To build up students’ ability to solve problems and to conduct investigations.
  3. Let students realize the contribution and restriction of science, as well as the relationship between science and the society. Also, to guide students to admire what God has done.
